Leather Testing

Guarantee the quality and safety of your leather products and accessories with Eurolab’s extensive testing and assurance services.

Leather goods such as clothing, belts, and small accessories are not only valuable items but also vary greatly in terms of the species used, types of leather, dyeing and coloring processes, chemicals applied in finishing, and even microbiological activity. Eurolab's extensive expertise allows for precise identification of leather species and the chemicals involved in the dyeing and finishing stages. This ensures your products meet both quality expectations and the safety regulations of markets like China with their GB Testing requirements. Our advanced laboratories can also verify professional leather cleaning labels, pinpointing any potential issues and suggesting corrective actions where needed.

Harmful Chemicals in Leather

Leather products may contain hazardous substances such as Chromium (VI), certain azo dyes, formaldehyde, and pentachlorophenol. Eurolab uses advanced analytical technology to detect even trace amounts of these chemicals, which pose risks to both consumer health and the environment.

  • Handbags and Small Luggage: The durability of strap fastenings is a crucial factor in evaluating the quality of handbags and luggage. Eurolab performs comprehensive strength tests with modern equipment to assess the risk of strap failure, whether at the buckles or the attachment points between the strap and the item itself.

  • Belts: Eurolab can assess belt components for labeling accuracy, check color fastness (for both wet and dry rubbing), and examine the potential for tarnishing of metal parts like buckles. Our testing ensures that belts are fully functional and meet client specifications.

  • Leather Apparel: Testing for dry cleaning resistance, light fastness, adhesion of finishes, and rubbing resistance (veslic test) can be performed on finished garments or raw materials before production begins. Additionally, zippers, linings, interlinings, and buttons are tested to ensure their performance. A comprehensive cleaning assessment of the entire garment can also be conducted.

  • Small Leather Goods (Purses and Wallets): We conduct tests on the attachment strength of hardware like corner pieces, clasps, as well as seam strength and lining abrasion resistance. For items like luggage, Eurolab’s high-capacity tensile testing equipment checks for strap/handle strength, flex resistance, seam durability, and more to ensure they can withstand daily wear and tear.

Beyond leather testing, Eurolab offers a complete range of services to analyze every chemical present in your products, providing toxicity assessments, chemical certifications, and comprehensive quality assurance solutions.
